About Me

Stretch

My name is Jeremy Stretch (most people know me as simply "Stretch"), and Packet Life is my little corner of the Interweb. After completing an enlistment in the USAF as a network infrastructure technician (3C2X1), I gained employment as a civilian network administrator supporting US and coalition forces in Western Iraq. It's not a glamorous life, but the pay is good. My time is divided between work, study, and projects like this site.

IT is my life. Although I'm primarily a network guy, every aspect of the online world entices me. From network design to intrusion analysis to writing code; I love to get into everything. Although this can become distracting, it has proven to be an invaluable attribute throughout my career. It is my belief that to truly understand data networks, becoming a jack of all trades is not only beneficial, but necessary.

About PacketLife

This website is the culmination of my hobbies: papers I've written, projects I've worked on, and tools and information I've found useful.

Packet Life was built with the following resources, and probably others I've neglected to list:

  • Django - An incredible Python development framework
  • Bluefish - Open source IDE for web development
  • GIMP - Open source graphical design application comparable to Adobe Photoshop
  • Firefox - An open source web browser, in my opinion much nicer than commercial alternatives
  • Web Developer - Very handy development plugin for Firefox
  • Screengrab - Another Firefox plugin, perfect for taking screen captures of web pages
  • Silk icons - The tiny icons you see littering the site are the beautiful artwork of Mark James
  • Cisco marketing icons - Some of the network device symbols littering the site are altered incantations of the original Cisco symbols

Support

I've noticed a despicable trend of people with personal websites (or worse, low-content blogs) asking for "donations" from visitors. Personally, I have a real job, so PacketLife needs no such contributions. However, if you would like to express appreciation for any of my work, please consider donating to the American Red Cross, or a similar organization in your home country.
